| On Wearing Additions A common mistake that women make is wearing the wrong texture for their hair. EXAMPLE: Samantha has a beautiful wavy weave, which looks georgous from the back, but the front of her hair reveals stick straight stubble! A hair stylist must have knowledge of the composition of hair and its different textures in order for additions to be truely becoming and alluring for you. Also, a stylist should be truthful when selecting textures for you. Always ask your stylist to test before he or she adds the additions. A misconception to many is that a weave or hair additions require no maintenance. EXAMPLE: Sharon is inspired by the "bedhead" look of fashion models, and decides she's not going to brush or comb her hair additions. "Bedhead" doesn't mean "bad head"! The bed head look can look very sexy, but it does require work. IT IS NOT achieved by ignoring your comb. Try curling your hair loosely in large sections, and tousling with fingers to give an unstructured look to it. Another mistake is choosing colors that are not complementary to your own hair. EXAMPLE: Jennifer's hair is dark brown in the front and blonde in the back. She said that her stylist gave her highlights?!! HIGHLIGHTS?!! Maybe Jennifer's hair stylist blended her hair in the dark! When choosing shades, opt for ones that are not too far from your natural color or from each other. For the best highlight combinations, ask for a color swatch and preview range of shades before your stylist applies the additions. BONUS TIP: Rubber tipped vent or paddle brushes are excellent for additions or weaves. For Hair In General If your hair is permed or relaxed, watch out for hats that are made of wool or harsh rough fibers because they can cause major hair breakage. Line hats with a silky type of material to protect your hair from being damaged during the chilly seasons. |
